Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't the tuner detect my string?

Make sure you're in a quiet environment and playing close to the microphone. Pluck the string firmly and let it ring. Background noise can interfere with detection.

What do the colors mean?

Green means you're in tune (within ±5 cents). Yellow means you're close (within ±10 cents). Red means you need to adjust more.

What are "cents"?

A cent is 1/100th of a semitone. There are 100 cents between any two adjacent notes. For example, there are 100 cents between E and F. Professional musicians typically consider ±5 cents as "in tune".

What tunings are supported?

We support 32 different tunings including standard (EADGBE), drop tunings (Drop D, Drop C), open tunings (Open G, Open D, DADGAD), low tunings (Half Down, Full Down), and even ukulele tunings. Select your preferred tuning from the dropdown menu above.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes! This tuner works on any device with a microphone. On iOS, you may need to tap "Start Tuning" to allow audio access. Make sure your phone isn't on silent mode.
